The Apparition depicts a peaceful beach interrupted by an enormous cat shaped cloud with a flower for a head, shooting a beam of light onto the shore below. The absurdity of the figure contrasts with the realistic landscape, blurring the boundary between dreams and reality. By presenting the impossible as if it were an ordinary occurrence, the work explores surrealism, scale, and the sublime. If something impossible appeared before us, at what point would we begin to accept it as real?
