About the Artist

Kaylyn Inda is an emerging artist based in Bay City, Michigan, currently pursuing a BFA in Fine Arts. Working across painting, printmaking, photography, and other media, she balances her developing studio practice with teaching, commissioned work, and her creative business, Inda Expressions.

My Background

I have been creating for as long as I can remember and taught myself much of what I know about art through years of experimenting and practicing on my own. As I became more serious about my work, I received formal instruction in graphite realism and later learned how to oil paint using methods influenced by classical techniques. Over time, I have adapted what I learned into my own process and way of creating.

I spent a year studying at the Savannah College of Art and Design before deciding to continue my education closer to home at Saginaw Valley State University, where I am currently working toward my BFA in Fine Arts. Throughout my education, I have continued experimenting with different mediums while developing my voice and direction as an artist.

My Work

My work is centered around storytelling and creating immersive, dreamlike worlds. Through surrealism and symbolism, I explore spirituality, dreams, nature, morality, social issues, and my own emotional experiences. I often take recognizable imagery and place it into strange or impossible situations, creating something that feels familiar while still encouraging the viewer to look deeper.

I am especially interested in the connections between spirituality, religion, philosophy, society, and morality. Symbolism gives me a way to explore complicated subjects, point out absurdity or hypocrisy, and introduce another perspective without telling the viewer exactly what they should believe.

Teaching

Outside of my personal studio practice, I teach painting workshops in downtown Bay City. Teaching gives me the opportunity to share something I love with other people and help make creating art feel approachable, even for someone with little or no painting experience.

Commissions

I also frequently create commissioned artwork, especially portraits and pet portraits. I enjoy being able to create something personal for someone while continuing to strengthen my skills in portraiture and representational art.

Sharing My Work

I regularly create and post content documenting my artwork and working process. I enjoy sharing more than just the finished piece, including the ideas, references, sketches, and different stages that go into creating my work.

Through my personal work, teaching, commissions, content, and Inda Expressions, I am continuing to build a life and career centered around art. As my practice develops, I hope to continue expanding the immersive world within my work and finding new ways to connect with people through what I create!
